SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) Step by Step Guide
The following brief SEO step by step guide will give you an idea as to the process steps involved. This is but a very high-level summary. But it should go some way to uncovering some of the fog that surrounds this crucial digital marketing technique.
Step 1:
We find the keywords people are searching for that are related to the products you sell. We then ensure all the main category pages, product descriptions, blog articles and accompanying images and videos on your site are fully keyword optimised and targeting at least one focus keyword in order to rank and bring in traffic (the exception being your T&C’s, About Us pages, etc).
Step 2:
We essentially perform a Google “MOT” of your website. It’s a highly involved process but a brief summation is to ensure your website ticks all the boxes as far as site speed, security, mobile responsiveness, meta tags and a whole host of other technical specifications. It’s essential your website is up to spec in order to pass this Google “MOT” stage.
Step 3:
With your site technical infrastructure fixed and your content keyword optimised and published, now it’s time promote it all via social media and via targeted outreach. This outreach entails contacting other blogs and websites so they can link to you and tell their audience about you.
This is the step where Google looks at who is pointing live links to your site, assesses the quality of the people pointing links to you and then compares those links to other sites it is ranking. Through its algorithm of over 200 different data points, it determines which page should be number 1, 2, 3, etc, in the search listings.

SEO is a gradual process (and we could write even more books than we have already on it) but, so long as you play by the rules and are consistent, Google will reward you with high rankings. And the reason high rankings are important is because when someone is actively looking for the type of product you sell, they have a clear intent to purchase upon finding the ideal product/deal.
London SEO Expert Strategies Explained
As a premier SEO consultant agency in London we have a number of winning strategies we can deploy for you. One of our tried, tested and most recommended strategies is to find highly contextually relevant keywords with low competition that your competitors most likely have missed.
For example, if keyword “A” is searched on average 2,500 times per month but the competition for it is fierce (we have software that tells us), and keyword “B” is searched on average 2,000 times per month but the competition is close to non-existent, which keyword would you rather target? We know which we would prefer to target as it will bring in.
Improving Your Domain Reputation Is Key
If we can improve your domain reputation (DR), perhaps create a dedicated category for each main target keyword (or amend an existing one), keyword optimise the category and build some backlinks to it, we should be able to get into the top 3 positions on Google for that search term (and the top 3 positions take between 55% and 60% of the traffic! So, it’s vital to always aim for those positions).
Once we thoroughly research all the keyword variations in your niche, we will discover many opportunities like the example outlined above. The aim is to get to the top of Google for a whole host of such keywords, make more sales and then assign this additional revenue to the marketing budget so we can go after slightly more competitive terms.
Get those into the top 3, make more sales and assign budget to go after slightly more competitive terms again. Rinse and repeat until you are the biggest player in your industry!
SEO Implementation Plan:
- Keyword research report: We need to deep dive into keyword topic categories. We do this to ensure we have covered every possible keyword combination and left no stone unturned. It’s a little like sifting for gold. The more untapped keyword opportunities we can discover, the quicker and greater the results will be.
- Competitor Analysis: We need to run competitor analysis reports in order to see the sources of all the backlinks your competitors are receiving. This way we can find common publishing partners, potential relationship targets and cross-compare to a separate industry research report we’ll run. Then we can hit the ground running on our outreach program and approach publishers who are going to move our search results at optimum speed.
- SEO Audit: We will investigate all the Technical SEO issues on your site to ensure its running to an optimum SEO standard. This will entail everything from your site speed to your sitewide crawlability, security to meta data and beyond.
- Keyword Optimisation: Keywords to be chosen, feature-length text to be written and accompanying photos to be SEO optimised.
- Keyword Plan for category pages. Then remaining keywords to target feature length blog posts. All pages to be keyword led and optimised.
We hope you have found this overview helpful. SEO can be quite a technical subject. But by deploying a strategy and executing it correctly, the end result of abundant natural search traffic is a huge reward. For most clients we work with it becomes the number 1 traffic and sales source.

SEO FAQ’s
Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO as it is more commonly known, is a marketing technique that aims to get the pages of a website into the top ranking positions for specific keyword searches on search engines like Google and Bing. The end goal is to greatly increase the amount of organic traffic to a website.
There are broadly two important components that go into SEO, onsite and offsite. Onsite refers to ensuring a website is technically proficient for all the elements search engines feel to be important. For example, they should be fast loading and secure with the correct HTML mark up code and meta tags used in the correct way.
Offsite refers to the number and quality of other websites pointing links to a website. A website that is technically proficient and has a high number of backlinks from websites Google trusts will, all things being equal, obtain high search engine rankings.
An SEO expert will deliver excellent ranking results without cutting corners. There are a lot of shadowy SEO practices out there which can get you banned by Google. A true SEO expert will not go near such practices and instead will obtain results by adhering to Google’s comprehensive guidelines.
When people use search engines they are aware of a problem or need they want to fulfill. As such, they are in research mode for a solution to solve their problem. By ensuring they see your website during this process, you have a high chance of converting them into a paying customer or client.
In order to do that, you need to be in the top few positions for a given search term to have the highest chance of receiving that traffic and then converting to being a paying customer. Only a true SEO expert consultant will get you there safely and on budget.
It really depends on the level of competition in your industry vertical and how well placed your website is. Namely, is it fast loading and technically proficient with a good site structure in place? Does it already have a tonne of great, high-quality contextual links or are you just starting out? The answers to those questions will determine a great deal as to the cost.
But to give you a ballpark guide, you’re looking at between £2,500 and £5,000 plus per month as a monthly retainer for a true expert consultant.
In short, Google them! If you search for the likes of SEO expert London or SEO consultant London, who are the top 10? Then use a tool like ahrefs to dig into where they are getting their backlinks. Have they short term gamed Google to rank them in the top 10? Or is there a clear progression of high-quality backlinks pointing to them over a period of time? Are the websites that are linking to them high authority themselves?
Are the links natural and contextual, like in genuine industry articles written by journalists on websites with genuine readers and traffic? Or have they been purchased and inserted into blog posts on random sites unrelated to marketing or business?
Follow your nose and you’ll soon be able to tell.
